Library will host book discussion


SALEM

Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host a book discussion at 7 p.m. Aug. 25 in the Quaker Room.

“The Orchardist,” Amanda Coplin’s debut novel, will be discussed. The story takes place in America before railways and roads. The tranquil life of Talmadge, the orchardist, is forever changed after the arrival of two pregnant teenagers. The girls settle onto Talmadge’s land and he treats them with compassion gaining their trust. Their quiet lives take a cruel turn with the arrival of men and guns. The tragedy that ensues challenges Talmadge’s will to protect all that is precious in his life and reconcile him to his troubled past.

This book may be borrowed in the Adult Service’s Department of the library.

Registration is not required to attend the book discussion group.
