Cruise Against Hunger car show is next Sunday

Staff report

NEW WATERFORD

Abundant Life Fellowship Church will host a “Cruise Against Hunger” car show, co-sponsored by the Salem Arby’s Car Cruise, from 5 to 8 p.m. next Sunday.

The event is open to all makes and models of cars that will be displayed in the church parking lot at 46469 state Route 46. Best-of-show trophies will be given to the top-three winners of a popular vote, and a Pastor’s Choice trophy also will be awarded.

Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day. The first 50 car entries will receive a dash plaque.

Funds raised through car entry fees, a basket auction, 50-50 raffle and food sales will benefit the 4C’s Food Pantry, which is next to the Abundant Life office.

The 4C’s stands for Crestview Churches Community Concerns and comprises the six churches in the Crestview Local School District: Abundant Life, East Fairfield United Methodist, Middleton Friends Meeting, New Waterford United Methodist, New Waterford United Presbyterian and Zion Lutheran churches.

The pantry, open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Wednesday, is an affiliate of the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, and serves an estimated 170 people from roughly 80 families each month.

For information, contact show coordinator Ginny Holland at 330-426-4210.

Another event in September is planned to benefit the pantry: New Waterford United Methodist Church will host a 10K run and 2-mile walk to benefit the pantry Sept. 19. Details about participating as a volunteer, sponsor, runner or walker are available on Facebook on the New Waterford Covered Bridge Run page. The church provides a full breakfast for all runners and walkers after the race.
