Mahoning Valley auto sales down 3.9 percent

New and used local auto sales in the Mahoning Valley decreased by 3.9 percent in July.

Sales dropped from 6,813 in July 2014 to 6,544 this July, according to data released Friday by the Automobile Dealers Association of Northeastern Ohio.

The data derive from titles processed at county title departments by the final business day each month.

Last July, sales had increased by 7.7 percent from 2013 to 2014.

New sales dipped 7.2 percent in the Valley from 3,088 in July 2014 to 2,865 this July. Used sales dropped 1.2 percent from 3,725 in July 2014 to 3,679.

Greenwood Chevrolet of Austintown sold the most new and used vehicles in July with 320 sales. But the dealership had a 13.3 percent decrease in sales.

Sweeney Chevrolet of Boardman came in second for new and used vehicle sales with 288, compared with 297 last July.

Taylor Kia came in third for new and used sales with 243, compared with 242 last July.

Greenwood sold the most new vehicles with 210 sales, up from 202 last July.

Sweeney sold 208 new vehicles, down from 227 last year.

Stadium GM Superstore of Salem sold 151 new vehicles, same as last July.

Greenwood also sold the most used vehicles in July with 110 sales, down from 167 last July.

Taylor Kia came next in sales with 110 used sales compared with 106 the previous year.

The top three new and used models in July were the Chevrolet Equinox with 258 sales; the Cruze, built in Lordstown, with 236 sales; and the Silverado with 217 sales.

The top three new models only were the Equinox, Cruze and Silverado.

The top three used models were the Chevrolet Impala with 104 sales; the Ford Escape with 95 sales; and the Ford F-150 with 86 sales.

The top three new and used makes were Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge.
