Harvey ordination

YOUNGSTOWN

The Rev. Kenneth A. Harvey was ordained July 15 during the fourth annual convocation of the Come As You Are Perfecting Churches Inc. under the leadership of Chief Apostle Allen D. Roberts.

The Rev. Mr. Harvey was ordained by the Concord Community Baptist Church of Columbus, and Bishop Gregory Draper, senior pastor, who served as moderator of the Ordination Council. The Rev. Andrew Bell Jr. of Dayton was preacher. Mr. Harvey will assist with development and overseeing of a Biblical Institute for Come As You Are Perfecting Churches Inc. fellowship.

Mr. Harvey is an associate minister and teacher at Third Baptist Church of Youngstown, where the Rev. Dr. Morris W. Lee is senior pastor.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering at Youngstown State University and master’s of business administration in executive management from Ashland University.

Mr. Harvey also earned a master’s degree in black church studies at Ashland Theological Seminary. He is pursuing a doctorate of ministry in Biblical preaching and teaching at Knox Theological Seminary in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Pilgrimage planned

NORTH JACKSON

The Youngstown-Warren-Canton Branch of the Slovak Catholic Federation will host the 22nd annual pilgrimage honoring Our Lady of Sorrows Aug. 30 at the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon, 2759 N. Lipkey Road.

The novena of Sts. Cyril and Methodius will be at 2:30 p.m. followed by the anointing of the sick and the sacrament of penance. Mass in Slovak will start at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. David Misbrener, pastor of St. Peter of the Fields in Rootstown, as homilist. Main celebrants will be the Rev. George Franko, founder and longtime chaplain of the local federation, and the Rev. Melvin Rusnak, the newly named chaplain.

Deacons’ Day

The Rev. Kevin M. Northam, pastor of Olive Branch Church in Dinwiddie, Va., will speak at the 11 a.m. service Aug. 23 at Third Baptist Church, 1177 Park Hill Drive. The annual Deacons’ Day will be celebrated.

Diocesan guild

YOUNGSTOWN

Diocesan Infant Jesus of Prague Guild will meet for Mass on Aug. 19 at St. Stanislaus Parish, 430 Williamson Ave. The rosary will be at 10:30 a.m. and Mass at 11.

Lay ministry

YOUNGSTOWN

Bishop George V. Murry of the Diocese of Youngstown has appointed Peter J. Schafer as director of Lay Ministry and Leadership Formation for diocese.

A doctoral candidate at the Catholic University of America, Schafer earned a master’s degree in theological studies from the University of Dayton and a bachelor’s degree in theology with a minor in business administration from Ohio Dominican College.

He served as a religious studies teacher at Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron. A member of Christ the Servant Parish in Canton, Schafer and his wife, Elise, have three sons.
