Warren Kmart will stay open
Staff report
WARREN
The Warren Kmart no longer will close come mid-November.
Sears Holdings said Wednesday the store, at 2485 Parkman Road, would close this fall. The store was to begin its liquidation sale Aug. 30.
But Thursday, the company spokesman issued the following statement:
“We have worked with the landlord on amending our lease that will enable the Kmart store to remain open to the public and continue to employ our 68 associates. Kmart looks forward to continuing to serve the Warren-area community at this location just as we have since 1980.”
Sears Holdings, which operates Sears and Kmart stores, has closed stores to reduce ongoing expenses, adjust its asset base and to speed up the transformation of the company’s business model.
No other local stores will be closing, the company spokesman said.
