Man returns safe

BROOKFIELD

A man who caused concern for his safety by driving away from his home on Lincoln Street in Masury on Tuesday returned home early Wednesday and is safe, Brookfield police say.

Robert Hougelman, 66, drove off sometime between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday, causing his family to contact authorities, who issued an alert.

He returned home early Wednesday, police said. Hougelman has epilepsy, suffers from dementia and is under orders from his doctor not to drive, police said.

Hougelman’s vehicle was spotted on Mount Jackson Road in North Beaver Township, Pa., between New Castle and East Palestine, about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

Fire destroys house

YOUNGSTOWN

A 129 Ellenwood Ave. home that was shot at twice within 24 hours this week was destroyed in a fire about 2:35 a.m. Thursday.

Crews who were called to the home found fire on the side of the home when they arrived, reports said. Damage is listed at $12,000, a total loss, according to reports.

Police responded to the home about 8:10 a.m. Tuesday and 12:35 a.m. Wednesday after reports that someone was shooting at the home, and they found bullet holes and shell casings but no one who was injured.

The cause is listed as under investigation.

Day for community

YOUNGSTOWN

Lincoln Knolls Community Watch and Dandridge’s Burgundi Manor nursing home are co-sponsoring an annual day for the community from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the manor, 31 Maranatha Court. Food, fun and games will be offered during the event.

The community-watch group will offer a small bag food giveaway for Lincoln Knolls residents during the event. Participants are asked to take identification to prove their residency.
