Fined for warning shot
YOUNGSTOWN
Judge Elizabeth Kobly of Youngstown Municipal Court on Wednesday found a West Side man guilty of discharging a firearm within city limits for firing a warning shot in the air while chasing a suspected burglar.
The judge fined Peter Horvath of South Bon Air Avenue $50 plus court costs.
Horvath was charged May 10, after he chased someone through his yard who he thought was trying to break into his home. Horvath had a brief trial on the charge Tuesday afternoon.
Road closed today
KINSMAN
State Street between state Route 87 and Church Street in Kinsman will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today for a sanitary-sewer pipe replacement project being performed by Marucci and Gaffney Excavating Inc. of Youngstown. The recommended detour is east on state Route 87 and south on Main Street.
Free school supplies

The Emmanuel Community Care Center, 2 N. State St., will distribute school supplies to children in kindergarten through 12th grade whose families are registered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the center.
Any family registered at the center in need of school supplies should contact the center at 330-545-4301 by Friday. Anyone interested in donating school supplies should bring them to the center by Friday.
School supplies that are especially needed include book bags, college and wide-ruled paper and notebooks, scissors (especially Fiskars), bottles of glue (white), pencils and pens, pocket folders (some red), rulers, composition books, markers, colored pencils, yellow highlighters, 24-count crayons, red pens and pencil sharpeners.
Home shot twice

A South Side home was shot at twice Tuesday and Wednesday, a police report states.
Police were called to a home in the 100 block of Ellenwood Avenue about 8:15 a.m. Tuesday for a gunshot-sensor call. The homeowner told police she heard several shots and dived onto the floor and called 911. Police found three bullet holes in the home.
Officers were called back about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday for a call that shots were fired at the home. Police found shell casings from 9 mm and .45-caliber weapons in the street.
Reports said officers knocked on the door several times, but no one answered. No one was injured in either shooting.
Hubbard man charged
HUBBARD
Police arrested a former employee of O’Reilly Auto Parts on West Liberty Street who is accused of stealing from the business.
According to a report, Jason Gross, 32, of Hubbard, told police in an interview July 27 he had used fraudulent returns to take $1,621 from the store. Gross will be arraigned Tuesday in Girard Municipal Court on a theft charge.
Liberty drug arrest
LIBERTY
Police arrested a Pennsylvania man in the parking lot of Motel 30 on Motor Inn Drive on Tuesday evening on charges of possession of heroin, possession of drug-abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A police report states that Joseph Lombardi, 27, of West Middlesex, Pa., who was sitting in the vehicle’s passenger seat, had suspected heroin, a hypodermic needle, a cooking spoon and rubber tie-off. Police also found a pipe, more syringes and another spoon and rubber tie-off in the vehicle.
The report states that Lombardi told police all the items belonged to him. Police released the vehicle’s driver without charges. Lombardi will be arraigned Tuesday in Girard Municipal Court.
Arrested at bar
YOUNGSTOWN
A woman who stumbled into a West Side bar about 10 p.m. Wednesday with blood on her face and shirt was arrested on a warrant, reports said.
Reports said officers were called to a 1666 Mahoning Ave. bar where the owner told them the woman, later identified as Tammy Van Fossan, 32, of First Street, told people there she was punched in the face with a key by someone she knows. Police were unable to get much information from her because she appeared to be very drunk, reports said.
She was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. A records check showed she was wanted on a warrant from municipal court for theft. A police hold was placed on her at the hospital, reports said.
Dunkin’ Donuts mug

Veronica Heck, 22, of Struthers, is the winner of a “Miracles for Munckins” travel mug design contest sponsored by Dunkin’ Donuts in partnership with Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley.
Heck’s design will be featured on limited-edition travel mugs for sale for $5 at Mahoning Valley Dunkin’ Donuts locations through August. Customers who purchase the mug will receive 99-cent refills at participating Dunkin’ Donuts through October.
Five dollars from every mug sold will benefit Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. Dunkin’ Donuts has guaranteed the hospital a minimum $20,000 donation.
Campbell drug charges
CAMPBELL
A traffic stop Tuesday afternoon on Wilson and Keystone avenues led to a man’s arrest on drug charges.
Police arrested Timothy Hunsicker, 18, of Campbell, and found a small amount of suspected marijuana in his possession, a police report states.
Hunsicker will be arraigned Friday in Campbell Municipal Court.
Police also arrested Hunsicker on July 31, and found him in possession of suspected marijuana and a glass pipe, according to a police report.
Poland man arrested

A traffic stop Tuesday on Sixth Street led to the arrest of a Poland man on charges of possession of heroin, drug- abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia.
According to a police report, after the traffic stop, police found Steven West, 23, in possession of a small amount of suspected heroin, a hypodermic needle, rolling papers and two spoons.
West will be arraigned on the charges Friday in Campbell Municipal Court.
Felony drug charge

A township man faces a felony drug charge after he was arrested on a warrant.
Matthew Hanis, 25, of Meadowbrook Avenue, turned himself in to police Tuesday on a drug-trafficking charge, a fifth-degree felony. The charge reportedly stems from an incident in December. Hanis was arraigned Tuesday in Mahoning County Area Court here.

Because of VexFest, a music festival, East Federal Street between Market and Champion streets will be closed from 7 a.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Monday.
Truck flipped
HUBBARD
A truck flipped over on Hubbard-Masury Road at about 8 a.m. Wednesday, briefly closing that road, said Sgt. Patrick Abel of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. No injuries were reported, and the road reopened later in the morning.
