Kasich: 'Trump is hitting a nerve in America'
CLEVELAND
Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s second question at tonight’s Republican presidential debate was about illegal immigration and responding to some questionable statements from GOP frontrunner Donald Trump about the topic.
Kasich said he had just told New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, also a presidential candidate, that people think the two of them are outspoken.
“We need to take lessons from Donald Trump if we’re really going to learn it,” Kasich said.
But rather than criticize Trump, Kasich said the billionaire is “hitting a nerve in America.”
He then quickly turned to his talking points that he balanced the national budget while in Congress, turned an $8 billion state deficit into a $2 billion surplus, and created jobs as governor.
