NEW MIDDLETOWN
New Middletown Village Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded a $2,200 fire prevention grant from FM Global, one of the world’s largest commercial-property insurers.
FM Global representatives will deliver the award at the August council meeting Monday at 7 p.m. at the municipal building, along with village fire Chief Curt Brown.
The grant will be used to assist in fire-prevention activities to help educate the community and reduce the number of fires.
The department will be used to purchase long-life smoke detectors for distribution to area residents in need and a camera system to aid the fire department in properly collecting and preserving evidence related to the fire service.
Fire continues to be the leading cause of property damage worldwide, so during the past 35 years, FM Global has contributed millions of dollars in fire-prevention grants around the globe. Locally, the company has awarded grants to a number of Ohio-based organizations.
Through its Fire Prevention Grants Program, FM Global awards grants quarterly to five departments as well as national, state, regional, local and community organizations that best demonstrate a need for funding.
The company selected New Middletown’s grant application from hundreds it received.
