5-year sentence for Ohio mom convicted in toddler’s drowning

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio woman who was passed out when her toddler daughter drowned in a pool has been sentenced to five years in prison on involuntary manslaughter and child endangering charges.

The Montgomery County prosecutor’s office says 36-year-old Tara Seidel of West Carrollton was sentenced today in the death of 22-month old Rylee Seidel-Jacobs. Seidel could have been sentenced to three to 11 years in prison.

Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. says the child was found floating in a condominium complex pool on Aug. 1, 2013, and died a few days later. The autopsy concluded she died as a result of drowning.

Heck says Seidel was passed out asleep in the pool with illegal drugs in her system and failed to supervise her daughter.
