BREAKING NEWS | Seman murder trial set for Sept. 12, 2016
YOUNGSTOWN — A trial date of Sept. 12, 2016, has been set for Robert Seman, who could face the death penalty if convicted of the death of a 10-year-old girl and her grandparents in a March 30 arson.
Seman had a pretrial hearing today in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court today before Judge Maureen Sweeney.
Seman, 46, of West Calla Road in Green, could face the death penalty if convicted of the deaths of Corinne Gump, 10, and her grandparents William and Judith Schmidt during the fire at the Schmidts' Powers Way home.
Seman faces 10 counts of aggravated murder with death-penalty specifications as well as additional charges of aggravated burglary and aggravated arson.
He also faces separate counts of rape which carry terms of life in prison. He is accused of raping Corinne then setting fire to the home while he was out on bond just hours before jury selection in that case was set to begin.
Seman also faces counts of bribery in the rape case. He is accused of trying to bribe a witness in the rape case just before the trial was to start.
