A flurry of shows

It would have taken some- one with psychic gifts to have seen this coming.
Four announcements for local appearances by touring shows were made Monday morning.
Topping the list was Theresa Caputo, a.k.a. “The Long Island Medium,” who will come to Covelli Centre on Nov. 3 for a 7:30 p.m. show.
Other shows announced Monday include Darius Rucker, Oct. 10, Covelli; Three Dog Night, Oct. 11, Stambaugh Auditorium; and the Beach Boys, Oct. 24, Packard Music Hall in Warren.
Concert announcements can come any day of the week, but they traditionally come on Mondays, and four in one day is very unusual for Youngstown.
“People are back into their routine and paying close attention to the news outlets, radio, social media and emails, so it is a bit easier for us to capture their attention,” said Kelsey Rupert, marketing director of Covelli Centre, in explaining why Monday morning is the best day to announce shows.
Rupert works for JAC Management, operator of Covelli and Packard, which had combined for three of the four shows. She explained that the company is always working to book shows and finalize contracts, and they just happened to come together at the same time.
“We had been working on several shows, and because [the shows announced Monday] are non-competing genres, they were able to announce on the same day,” she said.
For Caputo’s appearance, tickets are $42.75, $62.75, $72.74 and $92.75 and will go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday at ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 800-345-7000 and at the Covelli box office.
Caputo, a psychic medium and star of the TLC show “Long Island Medium,” will give readings to audience members (of course, purchasing a ticket does not guarantee a reading) and share personal stories about her life and her unique gifts.
Covelli will be in the three-quarter house configuration for her appearance, with the stage moved up and black curtains covering the sides to make it more intimate.
As shown on her TV show, and evidenced by its title, Caputo is a typical Long Island wife and mom with one difference: she can communicate with the dead. She cannot “turn off” this gift, so messages from departed loved ones can come through to her at any time.
Darius Rucker will bring two strong opening acts with him — David Nail and Kristian Bush — for his 7:30 p.m. concert.
Tickets for the “Wagon Wheel” (and former leader of Hootie and the Blowfish) singer are $52.75 and $32.75 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 800-745-3000 and at the Covelli box office.
Rucker last appeared at Covelli Centre in February 2014.
Three Dog Night was hugely popular in the early ’70s, producing 21 hit singles, including “Black & White,” “Joy to the World” and “Mama Told Me (Not to Come).”
Tickets for the band’s 7:30 p.m. concert at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave., are $45, $35 and $30 (plus $5 per ticket service fee) and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at stambaughauditorium.com, by phone at 330-259-0555 and at the venue box office.
The concert will be Three Dog Night’s first full performance in Youngstown in more than a decade. The band’s members have changed throughout the years, but founding members Cory Wells and Danny Hutton have remained constants.
The Beach Boys, led by Mike Love, are also no strangers to the Mahoning Valley, last appearing here at the 2006 Canfield Fair.
Tickets for the famous band’s 8 p.m. concert are $45, $55 and $65, with a limited number of VIP tickets for $125, and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000 and at the Packard box office.
