Marine Corps Col. John A. Bolt, commander of the 4th Marine Corps District, is the main speaker for Marine Corps League Tri-State Detachment 494’s 36th annual Marine Corps reunion Aug. 15 at the Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road.
The event begins with refreshments at 6 p.m. Dinner is at 7 p.m., followed by the speaker, music and dancing. The reunion is open to all Marines past and present plus their friends and guests. Tickets are $25 each. For reservations, call Chester Kaschak at 330-533-6084.
Bolt graduated from the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., with a bachelor of science degree in history and was commissioned a second lieutenant in May 1991.
In 2002, he attended Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and received his masters of arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in 2012.
Reading program celebration planned
EAST PALESTINE
East Palestine Memorial Public Library, 309 N. Market St., will celebrate the end of the summer reading program with a magic show featuring magician Tom Phoolery at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Everyone can come out for the show, and participation in the reading program is not required to attend. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the East Palestine Library. Summer reading grand prizes will be awarded after the show. For information, call the library at 330-426-3778.
Training session on substance abuse
NILES
A free training session on adolescent substance abuse aimed at educators, PTA members, coaches, youth ministers, United Way agencies and volunteers will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the Trumbull County Educational Service Center, 6000 Youngstown-Warren Road.
The training was developed with the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board, ASAP Opiate Task Force and educational service center.
