A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:
HUBBARD
July 24
Drugs: A city employee asked police to assist in handling two loose dogs before officers issued a summons charging 22-year-old Erik M. Cline of Christian Avenue, Hubbard, with possession of drug paraphernalia. The dogs’ tag numbers indicated the animals came from Cline’s residence, where two suspected marijuana pipes were found, a report showed.
July 25
Menacing: Jack F. Boos, 71, of Oak Knoll Drive, Hubbard, was given a summons charging him with menacing after a man alleged that while checking on a dog in the 100 block of East Liberty Street, Boos had threatened to shoot the animal and the accuser.
Theft: A $170 bicycle was removed from an apartment in the 400 block of Caroline Avenue.
July 26
Harassment: A Hubbard man said his former girlfriend has made and sent him continual unwanted calls and text messages.
Burglary: A Hubbard boy, 17, faced charges of burglary and possession of criminal tools after a woman in the 300 block of Westview Avenue reported having heard noises in her basement. Police found the teen, who also had brought an aluminum bat, crouched in a corner of the basement, they said.
LIBERTY
July 25
Arrest: While conducting a welfare check in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue, police took 39-year-old Alicia Gibson into custody upon learning that Gibson, of Rose Avenue, Girard, was wanted on a probation-violation charge.
Assault: A pregnant woman at ValleyCare Northside Medical Center in Youngstown alleged her former boyfriend, of Logangate Road, had slammed her into several walls and dragged her through a hallway.
Theft/weapon: While responding to a theft at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, police charged 40-year-old Wason T. Neal of Old Bridge, N.J., with carrying a concealed weapon, theft and possession of criminal tools. Neal, who authorities said had a knife, refused to cooperate with loss-prevention officials, a report stated.
July 26
Theft: A Youngstown woman noticed her purse missing from a shopping cart while at a Goldie Road store.
Possible child abuse: Authorities received a complaint that a 3-year-old child had been shaken, smacked in the face and thrown into a car seat while in the 200 block of Goldie Road. The Mahoning County Children Services Board was to follow up on the situation.
Theft: A man removed two computer flash-drive devices and a computer cable from Walmart.
July 27
Theft: A $400 catalytic converter was cut then removed from a box truck in the 3100 block of Belmont Avenue.
July 28
Arrest: Wason T. Neal, 40, of Old Bridge, N.J., was taken into custody when he came to the police department after his car had been impounded. Neal was wanted on warrants from Portage and Summit counties.
Aggravated menacing: A Goldie Road man alleged his grandson in Richmond, Va., had made a threatening call to him, causing the accuser to fear for his safety.
Assault: A counselor with a Belmont Avenue counseling center alleged that while driving, a 21-year-old woman punched her right arm, evidently after becoming upset about a pending court case.
Animal cruelty: Officers cited 43-year-old Kevin Ellerbe of Arbor Circle, Youngstown, on an animal-cruelty charge after having received a complaint that two dogs were left unattended in a vehicle in the 200 block of Goldie Road. The animals had no water, and the outside temperature was 88 degrees, a report showed.
Arrest: Police in Youngstown picked up 23-year-old Courtney Martin of Victor Avenue, Youngstown, who was accused of failing to appear in court.
Theft: Charges of theft and possession of criminal tools were pending against a 58-year-old Warren man after 14 external hard drives were stolen from Walmart. The man also used a razor blade to open the packages, police said.
July 29
Arrest: Youngstown police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue relinquished custody of Rodney Smeltzer to township authorities. Smeltzer, 23, of Oakland Drive, Youngstown, was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.
Arrest: While answering a shoplifting call from Walmart, police charged 29-year-old Mister Jackson of Drummond Avenue, Youngstown, with obstructing official business when, they alleged, he had lied about his age.
Counterfeit: A man reportedly passed a fake $10 bill at Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave.
Arrest: Boardman authorities handed 29-year-old Edward C. Fink of Northeast River Road, Lake Milton, to Liberty police. He was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.
Arrest: Brookfield police handed to township authorities Julie Gould of Gypsy Lane, Youngstown. The 31-year-old Gould was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.
July 30
Weapon: While responding to a disturbance at a Belmont Avenue gas station, officers charged 34-year-old Samuel Levy of Howland-Wilson Road, Warren, with carrying a concealed weapon, menacing, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Authorities had to use a stun gun to bring under control an agitated Levy, who also had a knife in a sheath, they said.
GIRARD
July 28
Drugs: While responding to possible drug activity at a U.S. Route 422 fast-food restaurant, police charged 32-year-old Thomas A. Fisher of Logan Avenue Southeast, Warren, with drug abuse and driving under suspension. Fisher had three small bags containing various pills, as well as a piece of suspected marijuana, a report showed.
Theft: A Mohican Drive man discovered his $700 iPhone missing while at a Girard football stadium.
Theft: A man reported two iPhones stolen while in the 300 block of East Kline Street.
Identity fraud: A Patricia Drive man discovered his debit card had been used to make unauthorized online purchases.
Theft: Two solar lights were taken from a front yard near Trumbull Avenue.
Felonious assault: A woman reported that while walking to the Girard Police Department to file a report regarding threats against her, two people wearing masks in a vehicle with New Jersey license plates pulled up before one of the occupants pointed a gun at her.
Theft: A small stereo/compact-disc player was taken from a rear porch at a Jones Court home.
July 29
Arrest: David A. Kosovan, 34, of East Prospect Street, Girard, surrendered on a domestic-violence charge after his girlfriend alleged Kosovan had punched her head and waved a firearm at her.
Theft: Two East Prospect Street residents reported two flat-screen TVs stolen.
Drugs: A large bag containing various expired prescription medications was found in the 100 block of East Broadway Avenue.
