City will host March Against Crime

The city of Youngstown will host a March Against Crime event at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wick Park on the North Side.
The march will begin at Madison Avenue and Elm Street by the fire station and proceed along Park Avenue to Fifth Avenue to Broadway, then back to Wick Park with a picnic to follow.

Drug arrest made
YOUNGSTOWN
Police arrested Brian Paxon, 22, of Niles, on charges of possession of heroin and possession of cocaine early Saturday on the South Side.
According to a police report, Paxon failed to signal when making a turn onto South Avenue and was pulled over near Boston Avenue at 12:12 a.m. Police found out Paxon was driving under suspension, his third violation in the past three years.
Police said they found Paxon in possession of small amounts of suspected crack cocaine and suspected heroin. Police also cited him with failure to use the turn signal and driving under suspension.
He was taken to Mahoning County jail pending an appearance Monday in Youngstown Municipal Court.
Drug charges
YOUNGSTOWN
Police arrested Joseph Pedro, 49, of Columbiana, on charges of illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cocaine.
Pedro purportedly failed to stop at a stop sign when turning onto Market Street from Willis Avenue at 8:35 p.m. Friday, according to a police report. He drove to a nearby gas station after police signaled him to pull over.
Police noticed a copper-colored mesh, which they said is used as a filter in crack pipes, inside Pedro’s vehicle. A police report says Pedro admitted he had a crack pipe in the vehicle. Police also found small amounts of loose suspected crack cocaine in the vehicle. He was cited for failing to stop at the stop sign and was transported to the jail. He will appear in court Monday.
Heroin charge
YOUNGSTOWN
Police arrested Cassundra Ortiz, 32, of Youngstown, on a charge of possession of heroin Friday evening.
Police said Ortiz failed to stop at a stop sign when turning onto Zedaker Street from Philadelphia Avenue on the South Side. She drove into the driveway of a Boston Avenue home after police signaled her to pull over.
Officers found Ortiz in possession of small amounts of suspected heroin. She also had a suspended driver’s license in New Jersey. Police cited her on the traffic violations of ignoring the stop sign and driving under suspension.
She is in the Mahoning County jail pending a court appearance Monday.
