The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will host a breakfast program for companies looking to become more environmentally friendly. The event will be at Kenneth F. McMahon Hall at MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road, at 7:30 a.m. with the program scheduled from 8 to 9 a.m. Aug. 20. The event will focus on how green business practices and processes help protect the environment and improve a company’s bottom line.
Speakers include Justin Rogers, planning manager at Mill Creek MetroParks, and Stephanie Dyer, environmental program manager at the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments. Rodney J. Lamberson of Strollo Architects also will speak on Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system.
The cost is $20 for chamber members and $30 for prospective members. Reservations are requested by Aug. 10 and can be made by calling 330-744-2131, ext. 12.
Hazardous waste
WASHINGTON D.C.
U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, announced $2,058,844 to the International Chemical Workers Union in Akron from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences for hazardous-waste health and safety training.
“I will continue to fight for investments for our communities that will help hardworking Americans get the training they need to do their jobs efficiently and effectively,” Ryan said in a statement.
Funding was made possible through the National Institute of Environmental Health Science Multi Union National Worker and Worker-Trainer Health and Safety Training Program.
DeWine to speak
WARREN
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine will be the featured speaker during a Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber Government Affairs Council luncheon at Leo’s Ristorante at 11:15 a.m., with the program scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. Aug. 13.
“Mr. DeWine has been helpful in closing massage parlors in Warren and assisting Youngstown’s successful reduction in violent crime. We look forward to his update regarding ongoing issues,” said Guy Coviello, vice president of government affairs for the regional chamber. The cost is $20 for chamber members and $30 for prospective members.

Demonstration on plasticulture
COLUMBIANA
The Ohio State University Extension will demonstrate how to plant strawberries using plasticulture, the practice of using plastic materials in agricultural applications, from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The program will share the unique management that the production requires because of earlier frosts and winter conditions as well as where and how to keep diseases at bay. Brad Bergefurd, extension specialist for horticulture, will be the featured speaker at the program. Required registrations can be made by calling 330-533-5538.
