Fundraising run/walk planned

NEW CASTLE, PA.

Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV and Highmark will host a 5K run/walk to benefit Variety Children’s Charity’s My Bike Program.

Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to participate in the June 13 event at Neshannock High School, 3834 Mitchell Road. Registration begins at 8 a.m.; the race will start at 9.

Runners and walkers will enjoy entertainment by Faraone Brothers DJ Service along with post-race refreshments. Water will be provided at each mile of the 3.1-mile course. All pre-registered participants will receive a free T-shirt (race-day registrants are not guaranteed a T-shirt). Prizes for age-group winners will be awarded at a post-race ceremony.

Along with Highmark, other event sponsors include Daveic, Jameson Health System, Papa & Papa Attorneys at Law, MIU IV PSEA, Elephant & Castle, TMS Physical Therapy, County Market and Pizza Joe’s.

The cost for pre-registered adults is $20. Pre-registered students age 11-18 can participate for a fee of $15. Kids under age 11, chaperoned by an adult, participate for free. Deadline for pre-registration is June 3. Race-day registration for all ages is $25 (T-shirt not guaranteed).

Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV is one of 29 IU’s serving schools in Pennsylvania. MIU IV provides educational programs and services to 27 school districts in Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties. In addition, MIU IV implements projects mandated by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the State Board of Education, the General Assembly and the U.S. Department of Education.
