YOUNGSTOWN

Shadows grow long; the sky darkens, and streetlights flicker as night falls on downtown Youngstown.

Most cities have a distinctive nighttime skyline, and Youngstown’s is no exception. Though our city’s skyline may not be the equal of Chicago, Pittsburgh or Boston, familiar downtown icons such as the Home Savings clock tower, Huntington Bank and the Ohio One Building illuminate the city after dark.

A walk down Federal Street in the evening can provide a very different perspective on Youngstown.

In much the same way light changes as night falls on downtown streets, the clientele also changes from suit-and-tie clad business types to couples and casually attired twentysomethings. Live music often can be heard coming from several downtown clubs.

As a photographer at The Vindicator for nearly three decades, I have been fascinated with capturing images of downtown Youngstown. These images taken over the past several weeks are among my favorites of our city.
