Wright State scored seven runs in the first two innings and beat the Youngstown State baseball team 19-2 in the opener of a three-game series Friday night at Eastwood Field.

The Raiders scored seven out of 19 runs in the first two innings on three hits, four walks and two hit batsmen.

YSU’s two runs came in the bottom of the third. Jonny Miller and Frank Califano started the inning with back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners, and Miller scored on a balk. Califano went to third on a Jason Shirley groundout and scored on Alex Larivee’s groundout to third to make the score 7-2.

Wright State scored four runs in the fourth, two in the sixth, three in the seventh, one in the eighth and two more in the ninth.

Califano and Miller both had two hits, and Larivee and Anthony Rohan had the other two to lead Youngstown State.

Matt Morrow had three hits, including a two-run homer, for Wright State (30-10, 14-4 Horizon League).

YSU (11-25, 4-15) and Wright State return to Eastwood Field at 2 p.m. today for the second game of the three-game series.
