GIRARD

Nicholas A. Lewis, 22, of Lincoln Avenue, is in the Trumbull County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond, charged with felony robbery and accused of dragging a woman, 89, down her sidewalk on Ward Avenue while stealing her purse Wednesday night.

Lewis was arraigned Thursday in Girard Municipal Court. He was not required to enter a plea.

The woman said she parked her car in her garage and was walking to the side door at 10:10 p.m. when she felt someone pulling on her purse and saw that it was Lewis, who she knew. Lewis pulled her to the ground and dragged her across the “breezeway” and 10 to 15 feet into the yard, police said.

She eventually let go of the purse, and Lewis fled with it, she said. The woman suffered injuries to her hip and knee and was treated by ambulance personnel.

The woman had various items in the purse, including about $200 in cash. She had won $113 of it playing bingo, and Lewis had been sitting at the same bingo table with her, police said.

Lewis served 15 days in the Trumbull County jail last year for a misdemeanor theft conviction and was ordered to pay restitution of $126 to the woman for stealing from her by deception in August, according to court records.
