Basket auction benefit set for fire department

VERNON

More than 50 prize baskets worth a total of more than $10,000 will be awarded during a basket auction planned for May 2 at the Burghill-Vernon Fire Department, 6915 state Route 88.

Proceeds will benefit the department’s turnout gear and scholarship funds.

Local businesses and individuals have donated items for bidding, including Parkhopper tickets and a $500 gift card to Disney World in Orlando, Fla.; tickets to Kings Island; wine baskets; and sporting items including an autographed Browns football.

Ticket pack donation for basic items are $10 for a pack of 25 or $20 for a pack of 75 tickets; tickets for “Super items,” which have a retail value of at least $150, are $20 for 25 tickets or $30 for 75 tickets. There also will be a 50-50 raffle.

Doors will open at 11 a.m. and drawings will begin at 3 p.m. Concessions will be available.

Arts and crafts fundraiser planned

Angels For Animals, 4750 W. South Range Road, will host its second annual Crafters for a Cause, featuring only handmade arts and crafts, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 2.

BPJWL will mark 35th anniversary

Boardman Poland Junior Women’s League will celebrate its 35th anniversary at 6 p.m. May 4 with a Spring Social in the private dining room at Michael Alberini’s, 1140 Boardman-Poland Road.

Special guests will be GFWC/Ohio-President Linda Ross; Linda Crish, GFWC second vice president; and Yvonne Ford, director of junior clubs.

Past presidents are asked to take their scrapbooks to share that evening. Members are to take Mother’s Day gifts to go to Sojourner House for children to give their mothers, who are victims of domestic violence. Call Crish, BPJWL social chairwoman, at 330-727-9321 for information.

Ladies Night Out will feature dinner theater

The Christian Women’s Fellowship of Canfield Christian Church is sponsoring a Ladies Night Out featuring a buffet dinner and mystery theater set aboard a 1930s train.

It will take place at 5:30 p.m. May 9 at the church, 123 S. Broad St. (next to the Oddfellows Lodge on the Village Green).

The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for youth. Reservations are needed before May 4 by calling 330-533-2246 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Dinner will include chicken cordon bleu, green beans, red-skinned potatoes, salad, beverages, ice cream and cookies.
