Free fest for ailing children

Staff report

AUSTINTOWN

The fifth annual Kids Shine for a Cure festival will be Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. at Austintown Township Park on Kirk Road. Admission is free.

The festival is presented by A Way With Words Foundation, a local organization that raises funds, awareness and support for children — and their families — who are battling cancer, juvenile diabetes and autism.

It will include the flying of unique kites, presented by B&F Aerial Entertainment and donated by Armstrong Cable.

Home Depot will set up a hands-on project tent where children can make crafts to take home. Austintown fire, police and DARE units will be on hand for kids to explore.

Jess Briganti of 21 WFMJ-TV News will start the “One Mile Matters” event for all the children and their families.

T-shirts will be available at the event and at Jones Embroidery in Falcon Center on Mahoning Avenue. Live performances will include the ROCcK Children’s Choir and Terry and Diane McCabe.

A silent auction will take place in Stacy Pavilion from noon to 4 p.m., featuring autographed items from pro football players Emmitt Smith, Troy Polamalu and Brian Hoyer, plus Alan Jackson, Danica Patrick and John Travolta.

Food will be provided by Ted’s BBQ of Lordstown. For information, go to awaywithwordsfoundation.org.
