Boardman boys track team claims first AAC meet victory
The Boardman boys track team improved its 2015 season record to 4-0 by defeating the Youngstown East Panthers and Canfield Cardinals in their first ever AAC meet 73-52-39.
The Spartans opened the meet by placing first in the 4x800 relay with the team of senior Nick Long, sophomore Chris Butler, sophomore Nathaniel Ams and junior Adam Deeley. In the next event, the 110 hurdles, junior Nick Cessna placed second and sophomore Don Lewis finished third. In the 100 sophomore Sheldon Broyles finished fourth and the 4x200 relay team of sophomore Kobe Adu-Poku, junior Tyler Kellam, freshman Noah Massie and sophomore Jeff Kollar was second. In the 1600-meter run, junior Nathan Hadley took first place with Long finishing third. The Spartans placed second in the 4x100 meter relay with the team of Kollar, Massie, senior Jon Cina and Broyles. Adu-Poku placed third in the 400, and in the 300 meter hurdles Cessna placed first with junior Canon Carlisle in second. The 800 was won by Hadley with Deeley in third. In the 200 meter dash, Broyles took second and Kollar was fourth. In the 3200-meter run Long was first, Hadley was third and sophomore Nick Digiacomo was fourth.
In the field events, senior Doug Kephart placed first in the shot put and second in the discus. Junior Jason Jama was second in the shot put, sophomore George Wallace was third in the discus and fourth in the shot put and junior Shawn Devlin was fourth in the discus. Sophomore Richard Fisher was third in the long jump and third in the high jump and sophomore Samer Ramahi was fourth in the high jump.
“This was a great way to begin our membership in the AAC,” said Spartan Head Coach John Phillips, “East and Canfield have some very good athletes and we really performed well, our guys were excited to start off the right way in the new league.”
