Austintown Optimist host meeting

On April 14, the Austintown Optimist Club members were informed and entertained at the Youngstown Saxon Club by Jim and Toni Amey.

Jim and Toni reported on their activities with the Idora Park Museum. Jim and Toni have been working for a number of years now at their home in Canfield collecting and displaying artifacts from the old Idora Park. At this time, they have a 4400 square-foot building which is almost completely full of Idora Park memorabilia.

Jim and Toni told stories concerning the finding and acquiring of those historic pieces. They have traveled to more than nine states in their quest for memorabilia from Idora Park, which was in operation between 1899 and 1984. At this time, their museum boasts some of the original signage from the park along with the entire kiddie train, the cotton candy machine and two of the original turtles from that ride plus smaller items too numerous to mention.

You can get information concerning the operation of their museum, which is open three times a year, by visiting their home page at www.theidoraparkexperience.com.
