YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested an Ohio Avenue woman about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday after police said she lied to them about a man they were looking for.

Reports said officers were at a home in the 2200 block of Ohio Avenue looking for a man wanted on a parole violation, Cameron Dyer, age unavailable, who was supposed to be there.

Reports said the woman who lives at the home, Ciera Jackson-Bohazi, 25, said Dyer was not there. Officers received information, however, that Dyer was there, and they came back and found him in the attic.

Dyer was taken into custody as was Jackson-Bohazi, who was booked into the Mahoning County jail on a charge of obstruction of justice.

YOUNGSTOWN

Orlando Soto, 30, of Parkview Avenue, was taken to the Mahoning County jail about 6:35 p.m. Tuesday on charges of possession of drugs/cocaine and driving under suspension after a car he was driving was pulled over at East Florida Avenue and Southern Boulevard for making an improper turn.

Police found two bags of suspected cocaine in his pants pocket, reports said.

Soto had his 3-year-old son in the car with him, reports said. The child was released to a family member on the scene, reports said.

Comcast Cares Day

NEW CASTLE, PA.

United Way of Lawrence County recently joined forces with tens of thousands of Comcast NBCUniversal employees as part of the 14th Comcast Cares Day, Comcast’s companywide celebration of their year-round commitment to service and the largest single-day corporate volunteer event in the country.

Participants are encouraged to volunteer at two sites in Lawrence County on Saturday to help with landscaping, painting and general cleaning.

One site will be the United Way of Lawrence County, 223 North Mercer St., from 8 a.m. until noon. Breakfast and walk-a-way lunch will be provided.

Machining program

CANFIELD

Mahoning County Career and Technical Center is registering sophomores into its machining program.

Eligible youths include Mahoning County residents who will begin their junior year in August. Registration closes soon and space is limited. Interested parties should call MCCTC at 330-729-4100.

In 2013, the five-county region had 196 machinist openings and a regional growth rate of nearly 9 percent. Due to industry growth and a retiring workforce, about 300 machinist positions are expected in Columbiana, Mahoning, Trumbull, Lawrence and Mercer counties.

The average starting hourly wage for an entry-level machinist is $14, and average earnings for an experienced machinist is $19.03 per hour.

7 suspensions found

YOUNGSTOWN

Police reports said a man cited for having 21 pills during a traffic stop about 4 p.m. Tuesday in front of a home in the 900 block of Bennington Avenue on the East Side also has seven suspensions on his license.

Marcos Cuevas, 25, of Springdale Avenue, was pulled over for running a stop sign, reports said. The pills were inside the car. Police issued Cuevas citations for driving under suspension and possession of drugs.
