Summations today in Kevin Wright felonious-assault trial

YOUNGSTOWN — Attorneys gave closing arguments in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court this morning in the case of an East Side man charged with five counts of felonious assault and two counts of discharging a firearm into or at a habitation for a Feb. 1, 2011, shooting that injured a man at Bauker Street and Jacobs Road.

Kevin Wright, 30, Bauker Street, is accused of shooting at a car driven by a man who was at a home on Jacobs Road looking for his wife. Four of the couple’s children were in the car at the time of the shooting, but none of the children were hurt. Prosecutors said the man was shot in the thigh and grazed in the face.

After the arguments, Judge Maureen Sweeney instructed the jury on the law they need to follow in the case. They are expected to deliberate throughout the day.
