Pavlik enters plea

NILES

Kelly Pavlik’s attorney, Damian Billak, entered a written not-guilty plea Tuesday to assault and disorderly conduct, and Pavlik did not have to appear in Niles Municipal Court for his arraignment.

Pavlik, former world-champion middleweight boxer, was charged at the Pine Tree Place plaza Saturday after police said Pavlik was involved in a fight in the parking lot during the Foo Fighters concert that took place inside the plaza.

Pavlik, 33, of Sugarbush Drive in Canfield, returns to court at 8:30 a.m. May 20. He remains free, having been issued a summons for the misdemeanor charges, a Niles court official said.

Drug charges

YOUNGSTOWN

Members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force found 55 pills, suspected cocaine and heroin and about $970 cash from a man they were arresting on an aggravated burglary warrant about 4 p.m. Monday in a 3211 South Ave. parking lot.

Barry Scott Wallace, 21, of Lowell Avenue, was taken to the Mahoning County jail on the warrant as well as charges of possession of drugs, possession of drugs/heroin and possession of drugs/cocaine.

Tractor pull

The Columbiana County Antique Tractor Association will host its first tractor pull of the season Saturday at Mile Branch Grange, 495 Knox School Road. Starting time is 5 p.m. with weigh-ins beginning at 4.

Food workshop

The Mahoning Valley Food Coalition will host a community workshop on the topic of local foods and their potential for strengthening the local economy, supporting healthier people and neighborhoods, and revitalizing Youngstown from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Radius Room at Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave.

Youngstown is one of 26 communities nationwide participating in the new Local Foods, Local Places program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Transportation, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Delta Regional Authority and the Appalachian Regional Commission.

The workshop will include presentations on how local foods can support a more livable community and stronger local economy.
