MCCTC registering sophomores for machining program

CANFIELD — Mahoning County Career and Technical Center is registering sophomores into its machining program.

Eligible youth include county residents who will begin their junior year in August. Registration closes soon and space is limited. Interested parties should contact MCCTC at 330-729-4100.

In 2013, the five-county region had 196 machinist openings and a regional growth rate of nearly 9 percent. Due to industry growth and a retiring workforce, about 300 machinist positions are expected in Columbiana, Mahoning, Trumbull, Lawrence and Mercer counties. The average starting hourly wage for an entry-level machinist is $14 and average earnings for an experienced machinist is $19.03 per hour.
