YOUNGSTOWN

Seven local RadioShack locations either have closed or will close by early June at the latest, the company said Tuesday.

These locations are:

429 E. Main St., Canfield.

Niles Eastwood Mall, 5555 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles.

New Castle Union Score, 2521 W. State St., New Castle, Pa.

Warren Parkman, 2553 Parkman Road, Warren.

5880 Mahoning Ave., Austintown.

3320 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

2331 E. State St., Hermitage, Pa.

An earlier report based on a list reviewed by the corporate office incorrectly stated that the store at 907 Columbiana-Canfield Road, Columbiana was also closing. It is not.

Five local stores will become Sprint/RadioShack stores: Lawrence Village Plaza, 2650 Ellwood Road, New Castle; 7131 Tiffany Blvd., Youngstown; 3551 Belmont Ave., Youngstown; 2362 E. State St., Salem; and 3061 Elm Road, Warren.

Fort Worth, Texas-based RadioShack Corp. announced in February that it had reached an agreement with General Wireless Inc., an affiliate of Standard General L.P., to acquire 1,500 to 2,400 of the about 4,000 company-owned RadioShacks.

RadioShack filed voluntary petitions for relief under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code to effectuate this transaction.

General Wireless, the entity formed to acquire the stores under the asset purchase agreement, has agreed on terms with Sprint to establish a new dedicated mobility “store within a store” retail presence.
