Cultural Alliance plans a public presentation

CANFIELD

The Ohio Cultural Alliance will meet at 6 p.m. May 4 at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road.

Reservations must be received by April 29. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers. Make checks payable to Ohio Cultural Alliance and mail to: OCA, P.O. Box 561 Canfield, OH 44406-0561.

The Rev. Kathryn Adams will discuss “Going Places with the Ohio Cultural Alliance: St. Petersburg.” Cultural enrichment will be provided by George Kalbouss, Ph.D., retired professor at Ohio State University and an associate of the Ohio Humanities Council, which has partly underwritten the program.

His presentation will address the relationship of popular Russian songs to American songs. The council requires that this portion of the program be free and open to the public. It will begin at 8 p.m.

Friends of the Greenhouse Consortium will have a plant sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 9 and 16 at the greenhouse in Packard Park on Mahoning Avenue.

Program will inform about shade gardens

SALEM

Learn about the selection and care of plants and flowers that grow best in a shaded garden when Gary Stoddard of www.BestHostas.com presents a program at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Quaker Room of Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St.

The program, part of the “Go Wild in the Park” series hosted by the library and Salem Parks and Recreation Department, is free. Registration is requested online through the library’s website at www.salem.lib.oh.us.
