YOUNGSTOWN

Testimony is expected to begin today in a shooting case dating back to 2011.

Kevin Wright, 34, of Bauker Street, was not indicted until February 2013 for a shooting at Bauker Street and Jacobs Road on Feb. 1, 2011, that wounded a 26-year-old man.

Wright faces five counts of felonious assault and two counts of discharging a firearm into or at a habitation.

Jurors reported to the courtroom of Judge Maureen Sweeney in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court on Monday to be selected to hear the case.

Reports said an officer was stopped about 6:30 a.m. Feb. 1, 2011, by the victim, who said he was shot once in the chest, face and thigh. The chest and face wounds were superficial but the thigh wound was not, reports said.

The man said he was going to a home in the 2500 block of Jacobs Road when someone came around the side of the house and fired several shots at him while he had his children in the car.

The man’s wife was at the home to visit a male friend, reports said.

The vehicle the victim was in, as well as two houses in the area, had bullet holes in them, reports said.

No one else was injured.
