City firefighter cited for OVI in Boardman

BOARDMAN

A Youngstown firefighter was cited on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol about 2:45 a.m. Saturday.

Terrence Gamble, 38, is due in Mahoning County Area Court in Boardman on Thursday to answer the charge.

Reports said Gamble was pulled over by a township officer on Boardman-Poland Road near Bridgewood Avenue after an SUV Gamble was driving was clocked going at least 15 miles per hour over the speed limit.

Reports said Gamble told the officer he had a concealed-carry permit, and the officer found a loaded Glock semiautomatic handgun in a hip holster Gamble was wearing, reports said.

Reports said Gamble’s eyes were bloodshot and his speech was slow.

Reports said police took the gun for safekeeping and performed a field-sobriety test on Gamble, which he flunked, reports said.

He agreed to take a blood-alcohol test and registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.134. The legal intoxication limit is 0.08.

Fire Chief John O’Neill said no disciplinary action will be taken against Gamble until his court case is resolved.

He is still on duty, the chief said.

Gamble also had a previous OVI but that was not available in a search of court records.

O’Neill said Gamble was disciplined for that offense, but he did not have the information readily available Monday.

Because he flunked the BAC test, Gamble’s driver’s license was suspended immediately, although he can ask a judge to give him privileges to drive to work or for work, such as if he needs to drive a firetruck.
