Break in gas line

Break in gas line

CAMPBELL

The Campbell Fire Department was called to the scene of what police called a “major gas-line break” Sunday, reported Vindicator News Partner 21 WFMJ-TV.

Police evacuated one apartment complex near the break.

Shortly after 10 a.m., police were called to Jackson and Jean streets for a car accident.

Campbell police say a resident of the apartment complex at 136 Jean St. collided with another vehicle. Police say her foot then became stuck on the gas pedal, and the car careened into the building.

The car broke a gas meter on the building.

About 10:30 a.m., Campbell firefighters called in Struthers, Lowellville and Coitsville fire departments for assistance in controlling the leak. Dominion East Ohio shut off the gas service to the surrounding area.

Ohio Edison also temporarily shut off power to about 20 residences in the immediate area.

Police closed both Jackson and Jean streets as they worked to contain the leak.

The driver was cited for failure to control and driving without a license, WFMJ reported.
