YOUNGSTOWN

Three Mahoning Valley teachers are among the 2015 winners of the Golden Apple Award.

The Office of Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Youngstown announced that Sally Chronister of St. Aloysius Elementary School, East Liverpool; Sharon Machuga of St. Christine Elementary School, Youngstown; and Dorothy Mackos of St. Rose Elementary School, Girard, are among the award winners.

Through the generosity of the Donahue Family Foundation of Pittsburgh, the Golden Apple Award honors outstanding individuals who teach or are administrators in Catholic schools.

Their selection is a recognition of the commitment and witness of all the Catholic school teachers and administrators throughout the diocese.

The award includes a $5,000 cash award, certificate, a Golden Apple paperweight and lapel pin that are presented to award winners at a dinner May 21 at the Youngstown Country Club.

Stan Boney of WYTV will be the master of ceremonies for the event.

A selection process at the school and diocesan level determined award recipients.

Besides being a full-time teacher or administrator who has been in the school for at least three years, the recipients must show evidence of professional development, commitment to students and school, leadership qualities, service to church and community, teaching skills and be a role model as a Catholic educator.
