YOUNGSTOWN
A man was shot to death in the 300 block of South Jackson Street Friday evening, police reported.
The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. There are no suspects yet, police said. Detectives are investigating. Vindicator broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV reported the victim was in his 20s, and his body was found outside a house. Several shell casings were found in the driveway.
Alzheimer’s benefit

The Alzheimer’s Association Greater East Ohio Area Chapter’s inaugural Mahoning Valley “Paint the Night Purple” benefit is today at The Lake Club, 1140 Paulin Road.
Festivities get underway at 6 p.m. with a cash bar and social hour, and dinner is at 7 p.m. Music, entertainment, live and silent auctions, and a 50/50 drawing will be included. Tickets are $75 per person. Patron tickets are $125.

Man critical after South Side shooting
YOUNGSTOWN
A man was in critical condition Friday night after being shot in the 800 block of Philadelphia Avenue on the South Side.
Police said at least two shots were fired at the man, believed to be in his late teens. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. Police said they have no suspects.
Library fitness class
AUSTINTOWN
The public library’s first regularly scheduled fitness class for adults of all ages meets at 9:30 a.m. Mondays at Austintown library, 600 S. Raccoon Road. A certified group fitness instructor is leading the one-hour class, which includes cardiovascular fitness and strength-building components. The class, intended for those at beginning and intermediate fitness levels, has a $5 fee, but Friends of the Austintown Library may attend free this month.
Jailed on rape charge
WARREN
Anthony J. DePaul, 20, of Royal Mall Drive in Niles, is in the Trumbull County jail in lieu of $200,000 bond after his arraignment Friday on a rape charge. A not-guilty plea was entered for him in Warren Municipal Court.
The charges stem from a complaint filed with Warren police in February after they were called to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital for an assault of a 17-year-old female on Forest Street Northwest, police said.
Landscaping training
YOUNGSTOWN
Sly’s Landscaping LLC will host a program April 24-25 to train local men between the ages of 18 and 24 on the basics of landscaping at a vacant lot at 511 W. Indianola Ave.
The training is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 24 and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 25.
After training, up to 12 participants will be given an opportunity to join the company.
Sly’s recently hired six men through a similar training program, and the company plans to do more in the future.
Help clean highways
YOUNGSTOWN
Green Youngstown is sponsoring a state roadway cleanup from 8 a.m. until noon April 25 at the Covelli Centre, 229 E. Front St.
Participants will help clean litter from highway on/off ramps.
This event is funded by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
