Cultural alliance sets May dinner meeting
CANFIELD
Ohio Cultural Alliance will have a dinner meeting at 6 p.m. May 4 at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road.
The Rev. Kathryn Adams will address the theme “Going Places with the Ohio Cultural Alliance: St. Petersburg.”
The Rev. Mrs. Adams has a long history with missionary work in Russia and St. Petersburg.
Cultural enrichment will be provided by Dr. George Kalbouss, retired professor at Ohio State University and associated with the Ohio Humanities Council, which has underwritten this program in part. Dr. Kalbouss will focus on the relationship of popular Russian songs to American songs.
The Ohio Humanities Council requires that this portion of the program, which will begin at 8 p.m., be free and open to the public.
Reservations, mailed to OCA, P.O. Box 561, Canfield, OH 44406-0561, must be received no later than April 29.
Those attending are encouraged to take paper products to be given to the Gleaners.
Memberships, which run from September 2014 to December 2015, continue at $25 per person, and the cost for each meeting is $15 for each paid-up member and $20 for each nonmember.
Outdoor event for kids
HOWLAND
Howland Community Church, 198 Niles Cortland Road SE, is planning an outdoor event, Kites, Bubbles and Planes, for kids of all ages, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Saxon Club plans pork and kraut dinner
AUSTINTOWN
Youngstown Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road, will host a pork and kraut dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
The price of $9.50 for adults and $5 for kids includes dessert and coffee, tea or pop.
The public is welcome, and takeouts will be available.
Southington Relay schedules craft show
SOUTHINGTON
Southington Relay for Life, part of Warren’s May 8 Relay, will sponsor a craft show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Southington School, 2482 state Route 534, Southington.
Featured during the day will be more than 70 vendors and crafters, a basket auction, a 50-50 raffle, Girl Scout cookies, a cake walk, a beef raffle, and hot food.
