CLUBS

Youngstown Chapter of International Torch Clubs will have a dinner-discussion meeting at 6 p.m. Monday in Kilcawley Center, Bresnahan Rooms I & II, on the campus of Youngstown State University. The public is invited. Dressed in period costume, club member Trudy G. Mason will portray “The Unsinkable Molly Brown.” A social begins at 5:30, dinner at 6, and a lecture at 7. Youngstown South Christian Women’s Connection is hosting a “Merry Month of May” luncheon and program from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 13 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Judy Conti and Senior Dance Divas will be featured, and the guest speaker, Lisa Haley of West Salem, will talk about “Life’s Little Surprises.” The cost for the luncheon is $13. GROUPS

That Quilt Group I Belong To will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fair Park in Canfield. The facility will be available from 1 to 5 p.m. for those wishing to work on charity quilts. Doors will reopen at 6:30 p.m. for the regular meeting. The topic of the meeting will be “Buttons and Bows Challenge.” Those who pledged to complete a project using the “Buttons and Bows” theme will bring their finished projects to display. The group meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at Fair Park, with a few exceptions. It is open to all quilters in the Mahoning Valley at all skill levels. Holborn Herb Growers Guild will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Boardman Gardens in Boardman Park for the spring cleanup. Take gloves, trash bags and garden tools. If the weather is bad, cleanup will be moved to April 28. The hostesses are Cathy Bertelli, Donna Morell and Cheryl Ranshaw.

Canfield Republican Women’s Club has a dinner meeting set for 6 p.m. May 6 at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. The cost is $15 per person. The guest speaker will be Col. Brian Kennedy, who was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V.” Col. Kennedy retired in August and resides in Salem, remaining a vital part of the community. All are welcome. SOCIETIES

Ohio Genealogical Society, Mahoning County Chapter, will have a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Charles Church Ministry Building, 7325 Westview Drive, Boardman. It is handicap accessible. The program will be given by Jocelyn Palmer Dabney, a storyteller, retired Youngstown City Schools librarian and the director of Creative Arts Department at Rising Star Baptist Church. Poland Historical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Little Red Schoolhouse, on the corner of Struthers Road and Center Road. At 7:30 p.m. the program will be presented by Barbara Stacy and Larry Bartos, former Poland Seminary High School teachers. Together they will discuss the changes they’ve seen within the school system during their 40-year teaching careers.
