CANFIELD

The Canfield community expects a shared development and a new library will be a technologically updated hub where you can get a great cup of coffee.

At Good Evening, Canfield at Tippecanoe Country Club, community leaders gave updates on various projects. The event was a take-off on the usual “Good Morning, Canfield” and sponsored by the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber and its Canfield Area Council.

Canfield Township Trustee Chairman Stephen Maszczak said a 72-bed skilled nursing center called Windsor House will create 72 jobs. Between state Routes 446 and 62, it will be the first joint economic- development district in Mahoning County, said Maszczak and Canfield Mayor Bernie Kosar Sr.

The city will provide water and sewers for the center and will receive income-tax revenues, Maszcak said. The township will receive property-tax revenues.

In the city, the new library on Main Street should be completed by year’s end, said Heidi Daniel. executive director of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.

It will include a covered walkway, a 175-seat community living room, a “variety of espressos” from Stone Fruit Coffee, study rooms with new technology and charging stations.

The city also is planning a police station expansion for 911 and records, said Kosar.

In the township, a 110-bed Marriott hotel on U.S. Route 224 should be finished by late spring.

The school district used its permanent-improvement levy for technological upgrades, said Superintendent Alex Geordan. It brought back high-school busing and offered door-to-door busing for kindergarten to fourth grade. It offered all-day kindergarten for the first time this year.

Winning awards were:

Business Pride Award, Magnolias on the Green Salon, owner Carolyn Cappabianca Cruz, for longevity and commitment to the community.
