Sophomore Brittney Moffatt went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs batted in and sophomore Caitlyn Minney struck out five in two and two-thirds innings of relief to lift the Youngstown State softball team to a 6-3 win over Akron at the YSU Softball Field. The Penguins dropped the first game, 3-1.
Freshman Cali Mikovich and sophomore Maria Lacatena also two hits each and freshman Ashley Koziol picked up her sixth win of the year going four and a third innings and allowing four hits.
The Penguins improve to 13-21 while the Zips move to 17-19.
Bobcats rally past Penguins

Ohio rallied with four runs in the sixth inning and had eight pitchers hold Youngstown State to four hits in a 6-3 victory at Eastwood Field.
The Bobcats trailed twice in the game, 2-0 and 3-2, but they answered immediately in the next half inning both times to win their 20th game of the season.
Josh Fitch had two hits and scored twice to lead Youngstown State, and Mitch Longo had three of Ohio’s 10 hits. YSU starter Josh North didn’t allow a hit until an infield single with one out in the fourth, and the Bobcats went on to post three hits in the inning. North got a big strikeout with one out and runners on second and third, but Cody Gaertner’s single up the middle tied the score.

The Canfield High school softball parents group CHSondeck.org has raised $53,000 in cash and $10,000 more in donated labor and materials to build the softball field’s new dugouts that cost $20,000 each. Incorrect numbers were used in Monday’s story.
Pair of YSU athletes earn HL honors

Youngstown State’s Nina Grambling won women’s runner of the week honors after competing in the 100 and 200 meter running events at the Tennessee Relays. The Canton native run a career-best time of 11.61 seconds in the 100-meter dash on Friday to finish third out of 52 runners. On the final day of the meet, Grambling finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.09. Both times are the top marks by a Horizon League runner this season.
Marta Burak (women’s tennis) mproved to 28-1 in Horizon League play over her career and has won 23-straight matches for the Penguins. The senior went 2-0 at No. 1 singles over the weekend while also winning one contest at No. 1 doubles.
Against Milwaukee, Burak swept Chelsea Bailey in a 6-2, 6-3 match. In doubles play with teammate Julianna Heino, the pair won 6-4 and helped clinch the doubles point for the Penguins
LeBron has NBA’s No. 1 selling jersey

No matter whose jersey he wears, LeBron James is No. 1.
The NBA said Tuesday that James’ 23 was the league’s most popular jersey for the 2014-15 season. James returned to the Cavaliers this season after four years with the Miami Heat. It’s the sixth consecutive year James has topped the list, and the third time with the Cavs.
The rankings are based on overall retail sales on NBAStore.com since the start of the season.
Golden State’s Stephen Curry was second followed by Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose. Cleveland’s Kyrie Irving was sixth.
The Chicago Bulls reclaimed the top spot for best-selling team merchandise for the first time since 2012 season. The Cavaliers were second.
