The Youngstown Business Incubator will formally announce it has purchased The Vindicator business office on Vindicator Square, expanding the Incubator to five buildings downtown.

HISTORY OF THE BUILDING

1931: Scripps Howard erects building on corner of Telegram Square (now Vindicator Square) and Boardman Street in downtown Youngstown for its newspaper, The Youngstown Telegram. The Telegram formed in 1885 by merging the Youngstown News Register, Youngstown Daily News and Sunday Morning.

July 2, 1936: The Vindicator announces the acquisition of The Telegram.

1937: Building remodeled and enlarged to accommodate the combined operations of the two newspapers.

March 27, 1938: Vindicator celebrates 70th anniversary in new building on the renamed Vindicator Square. A special paper, a 224-page issue, weighing 3 pounds, described the building as 60,095 square feet of floor space.

1971: A new Vindicator production building is built on the corner of Vindicator Square and West Front Street.

December 1972: First issue is printed at new facility.

April 1988: Editorial staff moves into production facility.

Sept. 25, 2014: The Youngstown Business Incubator receives $3 million from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to renovate the original Vindicator office building on the corner of Vindicator Square and West Boardman Street.

April 16, 2015: YBI will formally announce its plans to take over the original Vindicator office building.
