Kristofer Doran from Trumbull Career and Technical Center is one of 100 educators selected for the 2015 PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovators program.
The program, which is in its third year, recognizes tech-savvy kindergarten-through-12th-grade educators who are serving as leaders in education technology and incorporating digital media in classrooms.
The 2015 PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovators will receive year-long professional development opportunities that include virtual trainings, access to premium and exclusive resources from PBS LearningMedia Custom service, invitations to special events and access to a free PBS TeacherLine professional development course. PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovators will also receive ongoing support in their community from their local PBS member stations.
A resident of Girard, Doran worked in broadcasting until 2008, when he decided to enter career and technical education. He is an interactive multimedia teacher at TCTC.
“One program that our students are involved with is the ‘PBS NewsHour’ student reporting lab,” Doran said. “Our center has outstanding resources that enable us to do projects like this, and I love it here.”
As a high-school student, Doran became interested in telecommunications as a career during a class visit to Western Reserve Public Media in Kent (then PBS 45 and 49).
He received his bachelor’s degree in telecommunications from Youngstown State University in 2005 and three master’s degrees in technology and education specializations from Kent State University. Doran is active in the Journalism Education Association and is a member of its curriculum initiative team.
