First Pasture Walk is Saturday

Staff report

CARROLLTON

The Eastern Ohio Grazing Council will host its first pasture walk of the season from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 5296 Mayham Road. Lunch will be provided.

This event will start the pasture-walk season and also will serve as the wrap-up session for the Getting Started Grazing Series.

The day will include topics such as in-field paddock layout and design and on-farm pasture evaluation. It also will serve as an opportunity for participants to expand their grazing networks.

There will be a grazing trade show that will provide an opportunity to meet the event sponsors and see what they have to offer.

Registration is requested by Wednesday. Contact the Carroll Soil and Water Concervation District at 330-627-9852 to register.

The grazing council presents new and old ideas for review, discussion and possible implementation. Interested parties who would like to attend any of the 2015 events can contact the Carroll SWCD to be placed on the mailing list.

The remaining pasture walks will take place on various farms throughout Carroll, Columbiana, Harrison, Jefferson, Mahoning, Stark and Tuscarawas counties. Anyone interested in the conservation of soil and water through growing and grazing forages is encouraged to attend the monthly meetings.

The event sponsors include Carrollton Farmers Exchange, Circle L Fence Ltd., Farm Credit Mid-America, Jefferson Landmark, Straight A’s Ranch Supply and Witmer’s Feed and Grain Inc.
