NEW YORK

Campbell High graduate Jake “The Bull” Giuriceo lost to Ukrainian boxer Viktor Postol by unanimous decision in an eight-round super lightweight bout on Saturday at the Barclays Center.

The scores were 79-73, 80-72 and 80-72.

Giuriceo (17-3), who is trained by Keith Burnside, was fighting for just the second time since 2012 and the first time since last July, when he defeated Travis Hartman by fourth-round TKO at Pittsburgh’s Rivers Casino.

The 5-foot-6 Giuriceo was giving up five inches to Postol.

Postol (27-0) is the No. 1 contender for the Danny Garcia’s WBC super lightweight title. Garcia fought Lamont Patterson later Saturday night in a card televised by NBC.

Postol had not fought since last May, when he knocked out Selcuk Aydin in the 11th round in California.

Postol has fought just three times in the United States.

NBC’s last major prime time boxing telecast before Saturday night came on May 20, 1985, when Larry Holmes defeated Carl Williams in an IBF heavyweight title bout.
