MCDJFS begins accepting apps for summer youth program

The Mahoning County Department of Job and Family Services will administer a Summer Youth Employment Program to provide needy families with income so that the children may be cared for in their home or the homes of relatives.

MCDJFS will receive an allocation in the amount of $828,640 to fund the summer program for youths from age 16 through 24 who meet the 200 percent federal poverty level guidelines.

The program begins May 1 and continues through Oct. 31. Employers can pay up to $10 per hour and will be reimbursed through the program.

Applications for the program will be taken at Mahoning County Job and Family Services, Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 20 through 24. Use entrance B.

A parent, caretaker or head of household is required to apply for the youth unless the participant is 18 or older. Applications will be accepted for outlying areas at the Mahoning County Ohio Means Jobs Center, 141 Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 2.

Primary contractors will be Mahoning-Columbiana Training Association, Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center and the city of Youngstown.

Eligibility will be determined, and a letter will be sent to the applicant. Placement is based on employer need.
