Film examines basketball role

“From Deep,” a documentary film by Brett Kashmere, will be screened at 6 p.m. Wednesday in DeBartolo Hall, Room 132, on the campus of Youngstown State University. Kashmere will be available for a question-and-answer session. Kashmere is a Canadian-born, Pittsburgh-based filmmaker, curator and writer.

“From Deep” is a feature-length experimental documentary about the game of basketball and its shifting place within American history and culture. It focuses on the evolution from indoor roots to the outdoor city game. It uses the game as an entry point into larger discussions of collective identity, race and fandom.
