The Steel Valley Postal Customer Council will have a free seminar from 10:30 a.m. to noon today at the Youngstown Post Office, 99 S. Walnut St.

The seminar is aimed at helping businesses understand the flow of their mail from the time it’s dropped off at the post office to when it’s delivered.

Summer opening

A new McDonald’s location in Tiffany Square on U.S. Route 224 will be completed and open by early to midsummer this year, the company said.

The new restaurant will replace an older restaurant at 1110 Boardman-Poland Road that opened in 1977.

This older location will be demolished and a new double drive-thru Chick-fil-A will be built in its place.

Free cookies for fans

Eat’n Park restaurants throughout the area will give away cookies today in celebration of the Cleveland Indians’ home opener against the Detroit Tigers.

Any customer sporting Indians attire will receive a free Smiley cookie.

The promotion is valid at all Eat’n Park restaurants in the Cleveland area, including those in Austintown, Boardman, Chapel Hill, Medina, Mentor, Parma, Warren and Willoughby.

Gorant Chocolatier recently received certification in the Safe Quality Foods Program. This certification reassures customers that additional protection measures are taken and even-safer food products are provided.

It demands stringent management controls, including documentation, plant inspections and audits for food safety.

Network honored

The Business Resource Network, a partnership of local government and non-profit organizations that provides a range of services for businesses, recently was named a “promising practice” by the governor’s office of Workforce Transformation.

The BRN was created in 2008 by local chambers of commerce, OhioMeansJobs Centers, economic-development organizations, universities, colleges, career and technical centers, community organizations and state and local government agencies in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties. It provides one-stop access to a full range of business services and solutions through its 42-member agencies. Such services can include financial incentives, employee training, business consultation, export help and technical assistance, often at no cost to the company.

Jeep fire probe

NEW YORK

The U.S. government’s highway-safety agency may reopen an investigation into Jeep gas tanks that can rupture and cause fires in rear-end crashes, the agency’s top official said Thursday.

Mark Rosekind, administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, told reporters in New York that he’s not happy with the Jeep case and says reopening the probe is among options being considered.
