On March 16, the Austintown library hosted a Kindle Klass event to help owners of Kindles learn how to use their devices. The library offers instructional courses like this to help its evolving community better deal with technological advances affecting the traditional print literature.
Andrea Robertson, a librarian at the Austintown library, instructed the class.
Robertson headed a very relaxed session, leaving the lesson plan up to anything that members of the class had questions about. She gave a brief overview to purchasing and borrowing books on the Kindles, followed by personalized help with problems the class was having.
Since Kindles are an Amazon device, Robertson discussed the importance of Amazon accounts — everything done with the Kindles is done through an account.
Unfortunately, e-books, the type of books on the Kindle, are currently limited in regards to borrowing from the library because of the costs. However, libraries are looking into expanding their collection as they become more popular.
Robertson informed the class that although not every problem can be solved during this session, they are always more than welcome to call the library and get assistance when issues arise.
“If people need personalized help they can set up a separate time for one-on-one assistance,” Robertson said.
Students in the class agreed that most problems would come up as they were using their devices, making hypothetical situations not really relevant to the learning process with the Kindles.
