COLUMBIANA

Leadership Columbiana County will host a Run Away From Drugs 5K Run/Walk event Saturday at Pavilion 1 in Firestone Park.

Registration will be 8 to 8:45 a.m. and the race will begin at 9.

Cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children 11 and under. Proceeds will be donated to create new drug awareness and prevention programs in Columbiana County schools.

Vendors, free giveaways and a basket auction will be offered.

Fireworks stolen

YOUNGSTOWN

Reports said someone took $150 worth of fireworks from Phantom Fireworks, 1206 N. Meridian Road, about 1:10 a.m. Thursday.

Police were called after a passer-by noticed someone running toward the front door, then leaving. Officers found a broken window with a rock inside amid broken glass.

Reports said the missing fireworks were taken from a display next to the broken window.

Roads reopening

YOUNGSTOWN

Effective this afternoon, these roads in Mill Creek Park will reopen to vehicular traffic:

Chestnut Hill Drive between Canfield Road and Kirkmere Spur; High Drive between Kirkmere Spur and West Cohasset Drive; Calvary Run Drive between Belle Vista and Milton avenues.

Running series

YOUNGSTOWN

The Healthy Kids Running Series begins at 4 p.m. Sunday at Mill Creek MetroParks’ Volney Rogers Field.

The nonprofit program, which takes place at the same time and place April 19, 26 and May 3 and 17, is for pre-kindergarten to middle-school children. Each week kids participate in a race, with distances based on age.

Burglary charge

BOARDMAN

Jeremy Bell, 29, of Trotter Drive, faces a burglary charge after township police arrested him Wednesday. Police reportedly searched overnight for Bell after a victim reported he caught a suspect on camera breaking into the garage of his Tippecanoe Road residence. Police used the recording to identify Bell. In addition to the burglary charge, he was arrested on breaking and entering and theft warrants out of Austintown and was taken to Mahoning County jail.

Volunteers sought

The Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership wants volunteers to join the AMG Foundation in restoring the Hughes Mansion, 634 N. Park Ave., for use as a home for returning veterans at 10 a.m. Saturday. Bring gloves. Lunch will be provided.
