Baby dies in hotel before reality show, parents from Warren

A Warren couple’s 8-month-old baby died in a hotel room after becoming trapped between the wall and a mattress during the family’s trip to be on a tabloid TV show, a Connecticut newspaper reports.

The Stamford Advocate reported last month that the baby girl died March 11 at the Crowne Plaza on Summer Street in Stamford. The family was going to appear on the “Maury Povich Show” to tape a segment that would reveal the paternity of the child.

Paternity tests are popular on the long-running daytime production filmed in downtown Stamford at the Rich Forum on Atlantic Street, where the “Jerry Springer Show” also is produced, the paper reported. The tapings attract large audiences that arrive on tour buses. Occasionally, police are called to handle disputes among audience members outside the studio, the paper reported.

The paper reported that an autopsy on the child was completed March 12 at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington and ruled out physical abuse, sexual abuse and neglect as the causes of death.

Police were investigating to determine if charges would be filed against the couple. A spokesman for the police department was not available Thursday.

The couple’s 2-year-old son also was in the room and was unharmed, the paper reported.
