WARREN

The Warren Philharmonic Orchestra’s spring concert will pack an emotional punch.

Titled “The Power of Fate,” the performance will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. NE.

The orchestra will perform Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2, Bizet’s “Carmen Suite No.1” and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Op. 36.

Soloists for the Bach are Christopher Krummel, trumpet; Kathryn Thomas Umble, flute; Martin Neubert, oboe; and Hristo Popov, violin.

“What’s particularly exciting about this concert is its emotional variety,” said Susan Davenny Wyner, music director and conductor of the WPO. “Bach’s concerto is bright, full of high spirits. The four soloists toss phrases around like jazz players at a baroque dance. ‘Carmen’ takes us to alluring Spanish gypsy rhythms, the famous ‘death motive,’ and into the bullring with the ‘March of the Toreadors.’

“Tchaikovsky unleashes the full power, drama and force of the orchestra as he grapples with his conflicting emotions. He, himself, described this as his most personal symphony, interweaving struggles of harsh reality against beauty of memory and dreams.”

Tickets can be purchased at the door. Children under age 13 are admitted free, with parent or guardian.
